| Killing in the Name for Xmas No. 1? |

So I don't know how many people in this group live in the UK like myself but I was wondering what everybodies thoughts are on the facebook campaign to get Rage Against the Machine's single Killing in the Name to top of the charts this week (making it the Christmas number one). For those of you not aware what's happening is that for around four years (if memory serves me right) the X factor tv show has finished close to Christmas guaranteeing the winner the number one spot. This year out of nowhere a group has been started through facebook that has grown incredibly fast and now holds around 760,000 members and have been encouraging downloads of the song to keep X factor off the top spot. Currently killing in the name is 10% ahead of Joe McElderry's cover of The Climb (Miley Cyrus) but this may be about to change as the song gets released on CD tomorrow, whichever song that is at the top of the charts on Saturday 19th will be declared this years number one. Simon Cowell of X factor has described the campaign as "cynical" but I was wondering if anybody else had any views regarding it... I saw Band of Skulls in Portland and I am so blissed out on this song right now! I almost hit some unsuspecting granny on my way to work this morning due to my rocking out, but granny is alive and well (I think) and I'm still rocking out! mood: high |

| Industree Music Network Inc. Launches Revolutionary Online Music Monetization Model |

Costa Mesa, CA-December 15, 2009- Industree Music Network, Inc., a new web-based company that centers around Social Music Sharing™, an innovative online music distribution and monetization platform, launches. Social Music Sharing™ combines social networking, music, and the ability for fans to share in the artists' album sales that they directly and indirectly help generate.
Social Music Sharing™ takes the most powerful component from traditional network-marketing based business models, the ability for consumers to share in the sales generated by the people they directly and indirectly invite into the network, and leaves the sign-up fees, purchase requirements, and aggressive sales tactics behind.
Industree stands firmly by the "share the wealth" philosophy; 40-50 per cent of every album sale is shared with the fans and five per cent of every sale is donated to charity.
Industree employs an "Honor System" pricing structure, which is based on the fans' honest opinion of the music that they buy. Fans ultimately name their own price for the music that they buy, and then the person who initially invited them, as well as that person's "Roots," all share in the profits.

| Request for recommendations |

It's Christmas time, and that means gift time, and that means I'm back here asking for recommendations on what music to buy my difficult gift recipients. This time, I'm looking for recommendations for my father. He enjoys music very much. A few specific bands he enjoys are are: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack Johnson, Lincoln Park, Kings of Leon, Weezer, and pretty much anything that might be played on a classic rock radio station. He doesn't like the following so much: pop, country, anything electronic or synthesized sounding, hip hop & rap. I'm looking for fairly new, lesser-known bands that he might enjoy (anything old or mainstream, and I risk getting him something he already has, he downloads a lot of music from itunes and I can't keep up). I just want to share some music from my generation with him, something he would enjoy but wouldn't normally run into on his own. Any help anyone could give me would be very appreciated!

| I'm not a big Joaquin Phoenix fan... |
|
|
01:54pm 12/12/2009 |
|

...but I will gladly use his name and the fact that he directed this video to draw attention to a fantastic song. Arckid is (or was) a band consisting of Spacehog members Royston Langdon (bass, vocals) and Johnny Cragg (drums) and Royston's younger brother, Christian (guitar, vocals), whose vocals are strikingly similar to Royston's -- so much so, in fact, that I didn't like his previous band, Kid Symphony, because it sounded too much like Spacehog. Sure, Arckid sounds like Spacehog, too, but that's OK, because Spacehog members are abound within. ANYWAY, I read that Antony Langdon (yes, their brother, and Spacehog guitarist) was also working on a musical project with Joaquin Phoenix called This Lady is a Tramp, but I've heard nothing more about it. I'll be posting a Spacehog entry soon, but in the meantime (pun intended!), here's the Joaquin Phoenix directed video for Arckid's "I'll Stick Around". mood: happy music: Spacehog - "Carry On" |
